Deb McKee is the rock for her family. As a single mother for most of her children’s lives, she shares a very tight-knit bond with her children, Heather and Brad. It’s no wonder Deb’s breast cancer diagnosis in October 2016 shook them all to their core.
Jane Humble of Fremont has rarely been sick, so when she came down with a bug that kept her in bed for a month, her family knew it was serious. “I went to the Walk-In Clinic in Ottumwa but they couldn’t figure out what was wrong with me. I went back home but wasn’t getting better, so my husband insisted I go back in. Since I’m never sick, I don’t have a primary doctor that I go to. My husband tried calling his doctor in Ottumwa, but they weren’t able to get me in to be seen for weeks.”
