Student Shadowing Opportunities

Mahaska Health Partnership takes pride in working with our community and is pleased to offer Student Shadowing Opportunities to high school students who have an active interest in a healthcare career.

To facilitate a positive experience for students, our patients and MHP staff, we would like to share the following guidelines for those requesting a shadowing experience.

Areas Available for Shadowing

  • Medical Group
  • Registration
  • Laboratory
  • Radiology
  • Cardiopulmonary
  • Physical Therapy
  • Inpatient
  • PR/Marketing
  • Human Resources
  • Information Technology
Requests for Shadow Experiences must be made 7 days in advance. We are not able to accommodate last minute requests.

For liability reasons, your school must have a Memorandum of Understanding with MHP in order for students to participate in shadowing. If you are unsure if one is in effect for your school, contact Lela DeVries in HR at 641.672.3228.

HIPAA / Patient Privacy
MHP takes the privacy and safety of our patients very seriously. All students will undergo education on HIPAA and the importance of safeguarding protected health information related to patient care.

School required immunizations must be current, including an annual flu shot.

I’ve secured a shadowing experience, now what?

  • Dress Code
    • Business Casual Attire
    • Slacks, skirts, dresses
    • Blouse, button down or polo shirts
  • No sleeveless, tank or sheer tops
  • Closed-toe shoes only
  • No visible tattoos

School Photo ID is required to be worn at all times.

If you have a student interested in learning more about the healthcare field, have them complete a Student Shadowing Request Form and return it to Lela DeVries at Mahaska Health Partnership during regular business hours.
