To facilitate a positive experience for students, our patients and Mahaska Health staff, we would like to share the following guidelines for those requesting a shadowing experience.

  • Physical & Occupational Therapy
  • Inpatient Services
  • Pharmacy
  • Surgical Services
  • Anesthesia
  • Health Information (medical records)
  • Coding
  • Marketing
  • Human Resources
  • Information Technology and Patient Accounts

Requests for Shadow Experiences must be made 14 days in advance. We are not able to accommodate last minute requests.
For liability reasons, your school must have a Memorandum of Understanding with Mahaska Health in order for students to participate in shadowing. If you are unsure if one is in effect for your school, contact our Human Resources department at 641.672.3162.
HIPAA / Patient Privacy
Mahaska Health takes the privacy and safety of our patients very seriously. All students will undergo education on HIPAA and the importance of safeguarding protected health information related to patient care.

School required immunizations must be current, including an annual flu shot.

I’ve secured a shadowing experience, now what?

  • Dress Code
    • Business Casual Attire
    • Slacks, skirts, dresses
    • Blouse, button down or polo shirts
  • No sleeveless, tank or sheer tops
  • Closed-toe shoes only
